Had a fantastic time tutoring.

I was the only one who showed up and 5 kids with math problems! It was awesome to go from teaching 3rd math to 12th grade math all in 2 hours. The 12th grader asked questions that would take me one hour to figure out...but with so many others waiting I wasn't able to spend that much time with her. All of them asked if I came every day of the week...I wish! It made me think as I was walking out of the library that everyone should volunteer at something! Most of the kids know what to do but like most in math they need assurance that they are going about a problem correctly...

I am staying away from pop as much as I can. When the day is long and I need something SO GOOD..this is what I been getting...SNAPPLE juice drink! so good!

fortune anyone?

I am getting so annoyed with fortune cookies that are not telling fortune. Like today I opened my fortune cookie and got "Finally, it is accepted as self-evident". What is this mean?
To anyone else... is this fortune?
Who is making these non-fortune cookies?

What will we do without lines?

What will we do without lines?

This morning when I parked to go to class the parking lot was covered with snow. So I parked in between two cars and walked to class. When the day was over I came out and couldn't stop laughing at seening my car. At first I thought someone moved my car or hit my car. The parking was horrible! It wasn't even close to the box. Then I realized a lot of the other cars were parked like mine. With snow we couldn't see where to park...WOW. STRANGE feeling to see the car almost in the lanes of oncoming traffic.

Rain in January? What a strange and very gloomy day. A perfect day to sleep all day and watch old movies. But I have way too many things to do. My photography class is driving me crazy, yoga class is painful (in a good way) and karate is hard and funny at the same time.

But all three are something new and rewarding.

More about these later. I better finish my paper.

"Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they will not be here tomorrow. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again."

This is just too hard to do...

Busy week! Running back and forth from home to school. I don’t even know how the week went by so quickly. Finally had my New York trip meeting where I got to meet everyone who is going. Picked my roommate and the group I’ll be in. We have a very diversified group so we’ll all have different ideas to contribute to the trip. Excited but I don’t want to think about packing till’ few days before. My coordinators arranged it so the group will have plenty of free time to do whatever we want. YEA! I am really looking forward to visiting the Empire State Building at 8:30 p.m. This is arranged so we can see the nightlife of New York. And everyone knows I love staying out late at night!

color of love?

In class we were talking about perceptions. So my professor asked these questions to the class:

1. What color is today?
2. What is the texture of your favorite music?
3. What color is love?
4. What does your childhood sound like?
5. What is your idea of a really good time?

So we all had to share our answers. For question #3 I said the color white! Everyone was a little suprised at me describing love as white! I thought of white because it didn't have any need to try to get attention, is simple, is there without needing to be in your face all the time.

I could never forget my dad walking me to the bus stop the first day of 4th grade. Assuring me time after time that this is my bus and it was okay to get on it. I kept watching him from inside the bus to see if he was 110% confident that this is the right bus that will take me to my first day of 4th grade.

He was right.

How time changes so quickly. Now I am the one assuring him time after time that this is the right highway to the store. I just hope most days that I could respond as lovingly as my dad did when I was 11 years old and afraid.

We also went shopping for school with my dad. I would pile so many things...usually 10 of each...I still have some things I bought for school in 4 th grade. ..so sad. My dad would patiently wait for me to make up my mind about my big once a year purchase. I remember one year we had to take the bus back home and I felt so bad that I made my brother and my dad carry all my stuff. Bags and bags of school supplies.......*heaven*.

Teacher Says...

One of my professors came after class and asked me if I ever thought about broadcasting. I said What?! Why?! Me?! Are you kidding?! He said that I had a great voice for speaking and he was impressed with how I introduced myself to the class. He said I had a powerful voice..ahhh isn't he sweet. I still can't believe it. Here I am thinking I sounded extremely uncomfortable and I get a compliment like this.

Still can't help thinking if he was speaking to the right student?

I am always a little suprised how people perceive me.

My favorites:

Two of my favorite things: handbags and jewelries!! I got the bag for $20…what a deal! And the necklace was free. FREE. Who doesn’t love that?

I ordered a necklace through a magazine. But when I got the package it was this necklace and not the one I ordered. This was beautiful but I wanted what I ordered which had matching earrings to it. I called them this morning before school to complain and ask them to refund my money.

The man I talked to was very nice. He explained that they had run out of the necklace I had ordered and was substituting this for that one. So I said “Well, I am not satisfied with this product because the one I ordered had earrings to match”. He said he understood my frustration and was sending me the spring catalog that I could choose something from.

So I said “Should I send this one to you then”? He said, “No, you can keep this necklace as well.” I said “Ohh my gosh, thank you”!

We received a videotape from my aunt back in Sri Lanka.
It was so amazing to look at.
She took video of the temple in our town that is slowly getting fixed
and our newly built house. It looks so beautiful and comfortable.
She built a huge patio right under a tree…that just seems
so relaxing. I wish I was there.
My aunt and uncle do so much for us
They are amazing people!
When people do so much the first thing I always ask myself
Is how can I offer them the same feelings they have given me.
How can I show my love and gratitude to them?

I am missing summer. The skirts and sandals....
Not the bulky jacket I have to wear now.

I had no idea karate could be a fierce workout! I am so tired.

I liked Steve Jobs quote so much...

I dropped my sister at the airport late afternoon because she went to visit her husband in Ohio. I was waiting for her in my car so she could come and tell me that she checked in and there were no problems with her flight time. Something about airports though….I don’t know what the feeling is? These first steps into this building can take you to a different WORLD…scary and exciting.
I just loved watching an older son give his dad an awkward hug…It was a great feeling.

Note: I am sleeping much better.

my giant bed..it doesn't look that big on the picture..that's a good thing.

I worked some exhausting hours on Saturday 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Waking up at 2:45 a.m. to get to work was not fun at all. It would have been a little easier if only I didn’t have a new bed frame to get used to. This thing is enormous in my room that is taking up half of my room. These couple of days it feels like I am living in some strange hotel room with a giant bed. Some strange world where half of my room is everything I am used to and the other half is unfamiliar.

But my sister assures me that it will take some time to get used to the bed frame.

I was watching Oprah and there was this couple on the show. The woman brought the man on the show to tell him a secret-This completely shocked me-. The man has been thinking that his wife had a debt of $40,000 but she told him that she actually has $160,000 of debt!

WOW. How do you emotionally heal from that lie? So many emotions...this couple has A LOT to work on. -What do you do about the money- How would she ever pay that 160,000 of debt..unless she wins a powerball..most likely..she'll be paying for this her entire life! Especially if this debt is from credit card companies. But not telling him..............AWWWWWWWWWWW!

It is so easy to become untruthful? Once you start...it gets bigger and bigger..

2006!

It’s going to be a great year. I just have a feeling. I have been busy the past week visiting everyone for the New Year! Ate a lot of sweets and worked extra hours…even though I haven’t been feeling well. Still it has been great to get together with families!

I made a lot of goals for the year and I am very confident that I am going to achieve all of them. One of the goals is to read more…more…and MORE! I miss reading for fun, waking up early in the morning to finish up a book from the night before. Whatever happened to those days?! I miss that!
I have had this blog for a year now! How time flies. It’s really sweet to be able to access what I did throughout the year by this blog. I just click on the month and I am back to those memories. I do want to get a hard copy of my blog.

Year of brilliant possibilities.

I have been thinking a lot about 2005 and what I want from 2006.

Group Work/ television vs reading/ no electricity!

I had a wonderful day today. Got to school early to finish talking to various people and meet my biology group for our project. We were working on how caffeine intake affects our blood pressure. Our hypothesis was that caffeine intake will increase our blood pressure as other researches shows. So we all met, seven of us, at 9 a.m. to measure our blood pressure. Then we all dashed to a nearby coffee place to drink down 16 oz. of coffee. It was great to see all of us nonstop talking about various things and mostly about our future. I am sure the crowd in the coffee shop thought we all have been friends for such a long time even though we have only known each other for the past month! It was just great conversation, ideas, team work! Beautifully done.

I was reading an article about the affects of television and reading. Some quotes that stood out were:

A defense of Reading, by Marie Winn. The Plug-In Drug: Television, computers, and Family life, Penquin Books, 2002

“Television captures the imagination but does not liberate it. A good book at once stimulates and frees the mind.”

“Television images do not go through a complex symbolic transformation. The mind does not have to decode and manipulate during the television experience. Perhaps this is why the visual images received directly from a television set are strong, stronger; it appears, than the images conjured up mentally while reading. But ultimately they satisfy less.”

“The television child has fewer opportunities for learning to sustain concentration than the “book” child of the past.”

Is a little embarrassing they keep referring to children but I know many adults have trouble turning the television off...me included!

Electricity went out for about two hours today and I went crazy! How much I depend on technology to keep me company. I was having lunch and watching television. I wanted to heat my food again but nope..no microwave. I thought let’s get on the internet…NO! I felt empty without my electricity..haha. I talked on my cell for awhile and got extremely bored..so I went shopping!! Holiday shopping has began!

Memoirs of a Geisha

I loved the book. This week the movie is opening and I can't wait to see it. The preview looks...magical. I found this site with tons of pictures of the movie and the actress Zhang Ziyi. The picture is from this site too. [Click Here]

What a beautiful day. It has been snowing all day. I woke up pretty early (5:30 a.m…that’s really early for me) I had plenty of time to drive to work. On the way I had time to enjoy the snow. For the past hour I have been doing some searches on NYC. I am planning to attend the Conan O’Brien show and was searching for the address to send for tickets. My professor suggested doing something creative so it would get their attention…let's wait and see what I come up with.
