I just got back from work at 11p.m. and have to be at work at 7 a.m. tomorrow. So maybe you are wondering shouldn't I be in bed? At work I was telling my sister how I was going to drive home, brush my teeth, and get to get bed! Everything went as planned except I can't sleep! So here I am typing away. This blog thing is getting a little addictive! Ever since I started this I been wondering about all the books at the library. I mean what if there's a book no one has read EVER. is that possible? Also how difficult it is for authors who spent so much time on writing a book, publishing it, and not getting any kind of recognition for their book? Yet they keep going. All the books that are published in a year you only hear about a few mentioned over and over but what about those other ones? My conclusion: Most are not after the recognition ..they do it because they want to. What others think does not keep them going...is simply that they want to do it regardless!

Learn as if you were going to live forever.
Live as if you were going to die tomorrow.

The greatest power ever bestowed upon mankind is the power of choice. Choose to persist without exception. Hold fast to your dreams and stay the course, even in the face of exhaustion, rejection, and uncertainty.
-Andy Andrews, The traveler's Gift (good book)

There is surely nothing other than a single purpose of the present moment. A man's whole life is a succession of moment after moment. If one fully understands the present moment, there will be nothing else to do, and nothing else to pursue. -Hagakure

Internet sucks.

As I sit here desperately trying to finish a paper for class tomorrow..and doing the research online for this paper it occured to me!

someone needs to monitor the internet! Not for porn, or useless sites ..put whatever you want on the net for all I care...but someone needs to monitor all those damn sites that have links that go NOWHERE...and will never go ANYWHERE EVER! What's the point of having links if they don't take you to that place!! I say all sites that have links that go nowhere for a long period of time should be charged!!!!shut down. Billed!

If anyone can give me that department's contact information...I am going to complain!!!!!!!!!!!
how worse can the problem get?
we bring something useful but stress levels are going up!

Seriously though people, since I am on the internet these days a lot I have been having a lot of thoughts about it... rather just questions. One day I'll make a list of them. weird little thoughts of curiosity about the internet.

Sri Lanka - Tsunami- Aftermath

My cousin just visited Sri Lanka and these are the pictures he sent. These were all taken in Mullaittivu, northern part of Sri Lanka. The bottom two pictures are of a school there (Mahavidyalayam) and as you could see students are cleaning the area up. The second picture from the top is a church and I remember driving around that area December 2004...I don't have a picture of the church back then but is clear that there is a lot of damage. That's my uncle in the picture.

Thanks to Sutharsan for the pictures!

Dark Pictures.

I got on a computer at school and wanted to see if the pictures I posted were working fine. I was kinda disappointed with the way the pictures look on my school computer. On my laptop last night the pictures looked brighter but now they seem so dark.

grrrr.. :)

what's going on??

Does anyone else see the problem?

A Writers Vision.

Reporting to the World
A life of creativity
Thoughts/Motivation/Aspirations
A writer
A mind so powerful-never wanting to be wasteful
Filled with information
Craving to reach the world
To reach every corner
like air-unstoppable
But only with a paper
a piece of paper with black ink
fragile-yet powerful
This paper could melt/burn/rip/crumple so easily
but he wanted to hold on to his thoughts
he held on to this paper-like every breath was his last
He couldn't sit there and let time take over eternity
he had to put his thoughts to use-he only had his thoughts
he wanted a change-revolution of the minds
he needed his thoughts to change another man's perception
his aspiration was to awaken sleepwalking men
he needed this-he wanted this-
this is the only way for him to give back
to an empty, voiceless, soundless, mute world.

Sleep/success - Random scribbles

Yesterday mom and I were talking about how she can't sleep that long. If she goes to bed earlier than usual she'll wake up at 3 a.m. and not be able to go back to bed. On the other hand, if I go to bed early i'll be able to sleep longer than 3 a.m. and take a nap during the day.

Just wondering why is it people in their 20's sleep more than the older people. I would think it would be the opposite...maybe i'll hit a few sites on this later. Or is this all in the mind? excuses?

I was reading a magazine yesterday and copied this down.

A Winner's Guidebook.

There are things all successful people do without even thinking.
Here are five from: Cynthia Kersey "Unstoppable"

1. Trust yourself: follow your intuition no matter what others say

2. Pursue your passion: commit to projects you love, and they will fuel you with energy and enthusiasm

3. Avoid Negativity: Tell yourself you'll make it, no matter how long it takes or how many times you failed along the way

4. Acknowledge accomplishments: Keep track of your daily victories will remind you of your progress

5. Ask for help: Find people who've done what you're setting out to do, and seek their advice.

The impossible will take a little while...

I am reading this great book! "The impossible will take a little while" by Paul Loeb.

  • First off I loved the title immediately and was curious of what type of book it was. When something about political movements was mentioned...I said Damn it. Usually I'll skip everything that has to do with politics. But the title just made me want to glimpse at it.
anyhow...

So far the book is really good!

The author mentioned the title came from the Billie Holiday Lyric
"The difficult I'll do right now. The impossible will take a little while."

The book brings together stories of political movements written by Nelson Mendela, Alice Walker, so many others.

"Think of the following essays as a conversation in which some of the most eloquent, visionary, and provocative people of our age explore the historical, political, and spiritual frameworks that have shaped their lives."
-Paul Loeb

The book continuously mentions how individual deeds matter, that major movements in history have been result of many people taking small steps together without giving up.

"It's not enough to be our best selves; we have to be Gandhi. And yet when we study the biographies of our heroes, we learn that they spent years in preparation doing tiny, decent things before one historical moment propelled them to center stage." -Danusha Veronica Goska

We don't have to engage in grand, heroic actions to participate in the process of change. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world. -Howard Zinn

Is that English?!?

I was recently watching CNN at work...amidst all the Tsunami coverage they had a brief talk about the American language. PBS aired a three hour series on the many different ways Americans speak the language. During the three minutes interview with Robert MacNeil he mentioned that Oxford Dictionary had to have a office in New York just for collecting all the new words that are being invented in the U.S.. I wanted to watch it but unfortunately i missed it: Here's the site

http://www.pbs.org/speak/

Some quotes from the site:

"Americans invent more words and phrases in a month than other English speaking nations do in a year."

"Social scientists estimate the number of varieties of American English range from a basic three - New England, Southern and Western/General America - to 24 or more. Some researchers suggest the number is actually much higher."

  • There's so much information so check out the site! I know if I go to another country and speak the way I do with my friends...I probably wouldn't find the way out of the airport. haha

Enthusiasm

"Every memorable act in the history of the world is a triumph of enthusiasm. Nothing great was ever achieved without it because it gives any challenge or any occupation, no matter how frightening or difficult, a new meaning. Without enthusiasm you are doomed to a life of mediocrity but with it you can accomplish miracles." -- Og Mandino, 1923-1996, Author and Speaker

  • After reading the quote I looked up enthusiasm..that's all..now I know a little more than I wanted to..but interesting still.

en·thu·si·asm ( P ) Pronunciation Key (n-thz-zm)n.
Great excitement for or interest in a subject or cause.
A source or cause of great excitement or interest.
Archaic.
Ecstasy arising from supposed possession by a god.
Religious fanaticism.
[Late Latin enthsiasmus, from Greek enthousiasmos, from enthousiazein, to be inspired by a god, from entheos, possessed : en-, in; see en-2 + theos, god; see dhs- in Indo-European Roots.]
Word History: “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm,” said the very quotable Ralph Waldo Emerson, who also said, “Everywhere the history of religion betrays a tendency to enthusiasm.” These two uses of the word enthusiasmone positive and one negativeboth derive from its source in Greek. Enthusiasm first appeared in English in 1603 with the meaning “possession by a god.” The source of the word is the Greek enthousiasmos, which ultimately comes from the adjective entheos, “having the god within,” formed from en, “in, within,” and theos, “god.” Over time the meaning of enthusiasm became extended to “rapturous inspiration like that caused by a god” to “an overly confident or delusory belief that one is inspired by God,” to “ill-regulated religious fervor, religious extremism,” and eventually to the familiar sense “craze, excitement, strong liking for something.” Now one can have an enthusiasm for almost anything, from water skiing to fast food, without religion entering into it at all
