Dear Frankie

Watched a beautiful movie yesterday: Dear Frankie. If I had a chance to create something as beautiful as this movie...I would be so lucky! Busy day at work doing nothing at all. I wanted to do a lot of school work but had a headache the entire time so I didn't get anything done.

Anti-War protest

Yesterday a protest was held at the U against the war. I got off class and was curious to know how an anti-war protest was being conducted. So I was standing in the crowd listening to the speeches being given. The usual: listing of how much money, lives, and resources are being used in Iraq when they can be put to a better use in the states All I know is: I don’t know! I don’t know about the war… it bad or good? I mean it’s a war…but can something good come out of this: freedom for Iraq? I know I should be more informed about war and should have a stand on it…but I don’t. From what I heard from the officials at the rally: it was a good turn out.

I got this in my e-mail and thought it was interesting:

undecimal (UHN-des-uh-muhl) adjective
Based on the number eleven.
[From Latin undecim (eleven).]

Some people do have undecimal hands: they might have eleven fingers. The bonus digit is called supernumerary. Supernumerary parts don't have to be fingers. For example, instead of a binary arrangement, some people are gifted with an extra nipple. You could call them "supernumammary".

-Anu Garg
gargATwordsmith.org

"A modern though little realised example of undecimal counting is seen in the ISBN of published books. Any ISBN comprises ten digits. If you multiply the first by ten, the second by nine, the third by eight, and so on, summing the results as you go along, the result will always be divisible by eleven."

Looks like winter is coming soon…Friday snow? So this will be the last time to pick roses from the front garden. This winter I really want to enjoy the snow. Go skiing, sledding, walk on the lakes when it’s frozen, everything snow related. Now all I have to do is find my jacket, gloves, and scarfs.

Italian Food!

Had dinner at Olive Garden on Saturday. What a great restaurant. This weekend I realized how much I like Italian food. I would be happy if I don’t go by another Chinese restaurant ever :--) I love eating out…not so much for food but for the conversations. I tend to have the best conversations over dinner at restaurants. Why is that? Doesn't most of us do? At work yesterday I was having my leftovers when an employee of the company recommended that I go to Victoria's Fine Italian Cuisine in Rochester. He said that its run by Mexican chef and the best Italian food he had!

Wow. Is it only me or is it getting harder to have a simple disagreements with your parents? As they get older---they are stubborn and are not willing to listen to anything others have to say…especially if they are wrong. Is their way or just have to deal with it.
Most of the times my parents are fine…not trying to make them seem like some bitter people…but some days just no idea what to do.

I think everyone has a choice as to what attitude they are going to have about a situation. My parents have to train their mind to have a clam and peaceful outlook about the future. Learn to relax! Know that you can’t control everything that goes around you and learn to accept things for what it is. Maybe they’ll take it easy in a couple of years…once all of us a settled down.

Got to change with life.

Fear

I had to dissect a rat today in class. The actual dissection wasn’t bad…but it had to be RAT! I don’t like any type of animals…especially rats. I can’t believe I had to hold a rat and the tail was so long……….All day I been in some weird mood because of this lab. I kept thinking what if this was the million dollar Fear Factor episode…I had to do it. If I could face my biggest fear then there is no excuse for anyone else to not do the same. Right? No Excuses…just results..

If I see a rat would I still run like there’s no tomorrow…DEFINENTELY! All it matters is I did the lab.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
--- Frank Herbert, Dune - Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear

I was searching for some fear quotes when I came up on The Phobia List.

Tao Te Ching #22

If you want to become whole,

If you want to become straight,

Cells Phones/Seniors

I always wondered what to do with my old cell phones. Now there is a program which takes used cell phones and gives it to older adults. In an emergency they can access 911 with their cell phones. The monthly service fee is not required to use 911! They can take it anywhere!

GREAT IDEA!

I am really enjoying my volunteer work at the library. I wish I could devote more time than the 2 hours a week I am putting in…I really don’t have any other time. Even though I enjoy it a lot I didn’t realize it’ll be challenging at times. How do you tell a fifth grader how to do simple math problems without just telling him the answer? How do you make them think about the problem? I knew from the beginning it would be no use for them if I didn’t make them think about the problem…so as of now I start by letting them make any mistakes as I sit there watching their step-by-step thought process. Then I go and tell them why a particular step was wrong. It is definitely rewarding just to see them actually understand the bigger concepts which will help them for years.

We’ll see what I learn next week.

KNOWLEDGE IS SO POWERFUL!

Sometimes I panic…thinking whether I am wasting my time not learning anything/everything.

Interesting FACTS

Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind was turned down by 25 publishers before Macmillan Published it. The book still sells about 50,000 hardcover copies a year.

I was thinking about this fact when I typed in "Interesting Facts" on Google search. I am pretty sleepy so I don't have too much time today to look at the other sites Google provided. But the one I had few minutes to look at was…..interesting. Here's the address:

What makes some people successful and others not?
Why are there people who are happy to go to work in the morning and others who don’t even want to get up?
Why some people are so passionate about their lives and others go through their entire life not feeling that even one bit?
Is it just being in that one place at the right time…makes all the difference?
Is it ALL luck? Attitude? Mindset?
How much control do we really have on what type of life we will have in twenty years?

Have no idea. But going to try as hard as I can to get close to how I want to be in twenty years?
Is that all it takes? Hard work. Is that enough?....................

Volunteer

I started volunteering at the local library so I could fulfill my requirements for the page scholarship. I started helping this overly active 7 year old who kept wanting to kiss me and play with my hair…was he there for tutoring or what? He was so cute though! He wants to be a firefighter and a ninja when he grows up. For most of my time I was helping this older Nigerian man with his sixty page research paper on an African tribe Olgba. All his information was good but he didn’t know basics of the Microsoft Word program! He could type but didn’t know there was spell-check, page break, that he only needed one space in-between words.

I really admired his patience, passion and… just hard work!

What’s up with men and heels? Not men wearing heels...but looking at women wearing heels? What do they see that they don't see otherwise?

Why is it that most of the times people see something in us (something powerful) that we don't see in ourselves...or even want to see.

school school school = life
School has been the only thing on my mind. Every time I just sit to do something else I am thinking about the deadlines I have to meet for the upcoming week. I am actually enjoying this commitment.

sort of looked over the book "The Pleasure of Finding Things Out"...the librarian was more excited that I was checking it out than I was. I read few chapters so far is really good. The book is by Feynman, Richard Phillips -- Physicist who won 1965 Nobel Prize for his work on quantum electrodynamics.

The other book I had on my shelf for a long time that I just can't get through is "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey..if anyone want to take the responsibility to read it and tell me about it that would be appreciated :-) Maybe is a good book on a plane because I saw a passenger a year ago reading it nonstop for like 12 hours.

HOW TO SUCCEED IN PROF. BARANY's ORGANIC CHEMISTRY CLASSES...WITH REALLY TRYING

WOW. Bit scared but also really excited to see how I'll do! So far Organic Chem. is going fine. The chapter problems.. once you get started on them become an addiction. Yesterday I was doing the problems at work three hours straight..without even being aware of anything else.

I am in my class today and like every other day few Cell Phones go off in the middle of lecture. There was this one cell that went off that sounded like a fight! So everyone in the class thought there was a fight in the room.

Today I learned that I need to learn more about cars..atleast know something/anything about cars. I been having many problems with my car ever since I came back from Toronto. I couldn't start it for four days. My brother and cousin figured out that is the battery...so $40 to get a new battery..but still my car would shut off by itself!! So i had to bring my car to the mechanic this morning...and I didn't know how to explain anything..that I actually ended up saying "I think there is a ghost in my car..and is doing weird things to it". The guy just started to laugh!

hate being clueless.

Well is actually a fuse that he replaced ..another $40. grrr..

My Word program is not working...so no spellcheck today.
